mIRecommends: Katana ZERO

Katana, Check
Pixel Art, Check
Blood, Check

Sounds like a typical Devolver Digital published game.

Developed by Askiisoft which look to be no stranger to creating smooth pixel art games. This one with it neon and almost metal slug look, gave me that nostalgia finish I love.

The gameplay is a spectacle that feels more like an action puzzle game where you need to clear the room completely to progress. Your have the option to slow the action down to reflect bullets or avoid some more nasty enemies and when you succeed you get to view the badassness in real-time. If you desire that kind of confirmation.

The gameplay is often placed in between a substantial amount of plot and depending on your tastes though this may irritate. Personally I love the world building and characters introduced. The plot parts involves some branching dialogue that can have a surprising outcome near the end of the game. Although you'll likely have to play multiple times to see how these different option play out as some appear to have minimal impact.

It is a little short on content with about a 3-4hrs first run, more content is something that is much needed. A boss rush or survival mode is something that would be very attractive to the one hit kill gameplay but it does have some initial replay value in the usual achievement hunt.

This was a complete impulse buy that I would wholly recommend. Get it from the storefront of your choice.
