Game Review: NieR: Automata

I'm sure everyone has that game installed. The one you click on in your Steam library that you just want to play. If you ever format and reinstall your rig, it's one of the games you install first, but loading it up and seeing the date on the save file instils a sense of dread. For me, this has been NieR: Automata.

Now that I've found the time and play through the main routes of the game, I'm not sure what took me so long.

I'm a big fan of Beet'm Up games, or as their commonly known these days, Spectacle Fighters. Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden and Metal Gear: Revengance all come to mind. It a style of game I just love. From the ridiculous amount of power fantasy to the usually over the top story beats. MG: R, in particular, is a favourite of mine.

With all that said, what took me so long to get into NieR: Automata? Well, I'm not all that sure. It may have been the UI layout or how the Map functions that took a little be of work to become accustomed to as the combat is something I really enjoyed. Although some of the aspects of the games combat systems with a controller felt like I needed an extra hand, it was always satisfying.

The game's story can be a little obtuse to follow sometimes most should be able to note the usually post-apocalyptic beats. The key highlights of the plot are more the growth of the Characters you play. 2B being your main protagonist come off as a little cold and mission-focused but that changes as the game ramps up.

Without attempting to spoil the adventure completely, I will just recommend you find the time to play the game yourself.
