My Games of 2020

I don't believe I did a list of my favourite games of 2019. It was on the to-do list but appears to have been left to the wayside. That was unfortunately due to a little bit of both personal and pure procrastination.

That said, it is now 2021, and I have that New Year Resolution gumption to do more writing this year. As for what I did enjoy in 2019? I'll give you a quick top 5.

Mindustry - A top down space themed crafting game with some Tower Defence elements
STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order - Star Wars game of the decade
Risk of Rain 2 - Risk of Rain goes 3D and is more electric than before.
Control - A Remedy game that may be a Alex Wake sequel in disguise.
Katana ZERO - A mind bending side scrolling hack-n-stash with added Neon

For the 2020 list, I will also give a Top 5 after the jump

Game Review | STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order

I really enjoy the Star Wars mythos. The epic of space travel, the empire, Jedi and so much more. While the recent entries for Star Wars have left me feeling a little lackluster this game from Respawn is like a return to form. Similar to that feeling of going back to Jedi Knight and Jedi Academy but without any swoop bike sequences. That said this game overall it something greater than the some of its inspirations.

Game Review | Mindustry

I've got a soft spot for Tower Defence games, I remember spending a good about of Warcraft 3 playing Element TD and some version of Tower Wars. Despite the gameplay having waves and wave of enemies throw themselves into your carefully mazed defences being so fun, it was not as commercially appealing as DOTA. As such there is few games that ever match the enjoyment from the classic Tower Defence mods of Warcraft 3.

Mindustry is does just that though. Offers a solid Tower Defence with endless enemy waves and a sandbox resource management tech tree that allows for a lot of frantic moments and creativity. I've mostly played solo, but there is a live multiplayer scene accessible via their Discord. The fun comes from loading into a map, find the spawn point, setting up a frontline and snaking your mining, liquids and ammo to where it's needed so that you can take down each wave and get out with as many resources as possible to unlock more of that tech tree.

While the game is available for free via Github I wholeheartedly recommend purchasing it from Steam or Itch.io to support the developer.

Late to This - Wizard of Legend

This little gem is something I picked during a round of Steam sales.

If you enjoy having to be quick on your feet while dealing with a ever increasing challenge this is the game for you.
